What are the Pappy Lorenzen Cross Country and The Hugh B. Nolan Track Meets?
Both are FCPS run extra-curricular track and field meets for the Elementary and Middle School aged participants (on separate days). The meets are held outside of school hours at a designated location - one takes place in the Fall and the other in the Spring. Participation is optional, however, they are invitional and entries are limited. Invitations are awared to students based on his/her skill and character. They are a great opportunity for students to highlight their abilities, compete against students from all over Frederick County, and represent their school. Number of competitors can approach 1,000. Ribbons are awarded for places 1-6. All competitors will receive a certificate. Parents are responsible for transporting their child to and from the meet.
Pappy Lorenzen Elementary and Middle School Cross Country Meet
The Pappy Lorenzen Elementary and Middle School Cross Country Meet is an annual Fall invitational meet named in honor of Bernard "Pappy" Lorenzen, a man who gave over thirty years of his time and energy to ensure that children of all ages had an opportunity to experience self-testing and character building activities while he served as teacher, coach, innovator, motivator, and friend.
